Headline Inspiration

I read my local paper online. This week the front page was filled with articles that could get a writer itchy to take the basic facts and run with them.

Shipment to Bath Iron Works contains unexpected cargo: two dozen black widow spiders

Hampden rescue crews extricate man stuck in sand for more than 2 hours

Woman driven out of job by inappropriate, sexual comments, rights panel says

I see plots everywhere. My upcoming London List series (November 2012's Lord Gray's List) was inspired by two articles I chanced upon in the Huffington Post about vintage lonely hearts ads and the blog Missed Connections. I strayed very far afield from those original sparks, but it's interesting to see what sets the mind to meandering.

Have you used or recognized a current event in your writing/reading? Where did you find your last inspiration?

there are some crazy headlines. When thinking of a story because of crazy happenings, I always think of this quote:

Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; Truth isn't. Mark Twain

Those are crazy headlines! And I totally remember when you told us about the idea and the link to those lonely heart ads. Inspiration can strike whenever. :)
