Marriage on the Rocks

Today's the release day for Mistress by Marriage! I'll be giving away lots of copies all over the place, Click here for the blog tour. Vixen favorite Janet Mullany calls the book "funny, touching and sexy." Here's the link to Amazon's Look Inside feature, if you want to sample Edward and Caroline Christie's story in or out of order. ;)

Baron Christie and his lady wife have been separated for five years, so this romance doesn't follow the usual sequence. And Caroline is not the usual heroine--she's got a ferocious temper, serious scandal in her past, and she's a romance writer. She's also way chubbier than the lovely model on the book cover. (Any resemblance to me is purely coincidental. :P)

Do you think we'll ever see less-than-perfect heroines portrayed accurately on covers? What do you think Edward is thinking, and where is that big hand going next?

***

Too late for cold feet

Baron Edward Christie prided himself on his reputation for even temperament and reserve. That was before he met Caroline Parker. Wedding a scandalous beauty by special license days after they met did not inspire respect for his sangfroid. Moving her to a notorious lovebirds’ nest as punishment for her flighty nature was perhaps also a blow. And of course talk has gotten out of his irresistible clandestine visits. Christie must put his wife aside—if only he can get her out of his blood first.

Too hot to refuse

Caroline Parker was prepared to hear the worst: that her husband had determined to divorce her, spare them both the torture of passion they can neither tame nor escape. But his plan is wickeder than any she’s ever heard. Life as his wife is suffocating. But she cannot resist becoming her own husband’s mistress…

Congratulations on the release or being a reader you may hae heard me mumble "finally", I really must call your publisher and tell them to work faster to get your books out!

What a great idea to talk about a "less-than perfect" heroines. My mind is still recovering from the hurricaine and I can't remember right now the title and author but I do remember how much I enjoyed reading a book that a less than petite debutante was the heroine! The covers even showed her chubbier than the usually heroione. I appreciated that she was realistically portrayed and I don't think many readers could measure up to the "usual" cover art/photograph and I enjoyed being able to actually "identify" with the heroine.

I do think it helps if the characters have something less than perfect about them that readers can identify with whether it's in beauty, behavior or hopes and dreams because I think it helps draw you more deeply into the story.

I've must say that I've never "identified" myself with looking like one of your heroines but I have with a chaperone or two! Now some of their quirks have definately hit home! I love your stories because they always keep me guessing about what will happen next.

Jeanne, June and Vixens, thank you so much!

I remember the controversy over Eloisa James's "plump" heroine Josie who was portrayed as a sylph on the cover. It's funny---much as I love Marriage's cover, the first thing I thought of was "Where's my chubby Caroline?" But it is gorgeous, and I won't complain but thank Kensington's art department for such exquisite covers.Kisses and kudos to them!
