Books, Books, Books

First . . . look at this new, fun blog started by Avon authors: http://www.theballroomblog.com/

You historical authors have all the fun---corsets, cravats, carriages.

But we contemporary authors do have modern plumbing, medicines, and, well, no one thinks twice if our heroines aren't virgins. ;-)

Anyway, some books I've enjoyed lately and some I'm looking forward to:

1. Gena Showalter's para series with HQN. I'm only on book 4, but these really are so good.

2. Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters. I'm about to reread this. Again.

3. Silk is for Seduction by Loretta Chase. Loretta is a genius. And I really loved the dress designing heroine, who also owns a shop with her two younger sisters. I especially loved how Loretta tied up the career angle at the end; it made this feminist very happy. ;) Also? The book is phenomenal.

4. The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson. I keep hearing how awesome this YA is, and I read it (thanks to Netgalley) and let me just say . . . it's probably one of the best YAs I've ever read. It's about faith in all aspects, but most especially about faith in yourself. It's got a fresh heroine--a princess who's fat, who hasn't reached her potential, who actually doesn't know why she's been chosen or what her purpose is, and one you root for as soon as the story begins. I'm totally hoping a romance blooms between the heroine and another character (I'm not saying who but I've got my fingers tightly crossed). And I really want to read the second one right now. Buy this. Buy this. Buy this.

5. How the Marquess Was Won by Julie Anne Long. I want this book. That is all.

6. Rainshadow Road by Lisa Kleypas. I want this, too.

7. About That Night by Julie James. It's Julie James. Do I need any other excuse but that?

8. A Lady Awakened by Cecilia Grant. I've heard this is fantastic.

9. Master of Sin by Maggie Robinson. Trust me. You'll want this book.

10. Wicked Nights with a Proper Lady by Tiffany Clare. Trust me. You'll want this book.

11. Falling Hard by J.K. Coi. A rock star!!! Go buy it on 7/18!

What are you reading that you've enjoyed? What books are you looking forward to?

A recent read that turned out to be fabulous (and I almost put down when I realized it was a sequel, but resisted the urge and read it) was Leaving Unknown by Kerry Reichs. The prequel to this was The Best Day of Some Else's Life (haven't read it yet but plan to do just that).

I started out thinking I wanted to throttle the MC, but as Ms Reichs slowly peels away the MC's layers and reveals all, you are rooting for her.

It is a lovely and charming read and one I would recommend highly.

Happy reading and thanks for all the recommendations.
