Father's day is coming and I have a great idea for a gift for my dad. Two years ago when my mother got a Kobo, I never once thought that my dad would like one as well, but he started taking my mom's and downloading his spy books and legal thrillers onto it and before my mom could say "Hey, give that back!" it was gone and she never got her hands on it again!
Finally, we got him his very own and now they're both happy. It also means I can get him a gift certificate I know he'll really appreciate.
Speaking of legal thrillers, attending my RWA Chapter meeting this month, we had NY Times bestselling author Robert Dugoni come to give a workshop about plot and character. He was informative in a very engaging way, and I liked how he broke down the plotting process so that it seemed less intimidating--like I might actually be able to do it that way instead of by staring at the blank screen and tearing my hair out. The man was awesome, in fact! I hadn't read any of his books before, but I picked one up afterward and devoured the whole thing as soon as I got home. I highly recommend his books AND his workshops. In fact, I think my dad would love one of his books for Father's Day.

Too funny! I haven't read Dugoni yet, but plan to very soon! I think my mother would love his books. My dad... does. not. read. Sad I know.
My Dad never read either, unless it was those coffee table books or something funny. I bought him Bill Cosby's book one year and he liked that.
My father's gone now, so I don't have to figure anything out for him this year but my father in law is a different story. That man has everything. Every golfing thing, every fishing thing. I need to start getting serious about a gift idea soon.
I'm lucky to have both my father and father-in-law in my life ... and also feeling kind of grateful that we're going to go camping instead of trecking all around three towns to spend the weekend visiting. It makes it much easier to visit them each after Father's Day instead of fighting about who gets to see who on the Big Day.
Plot? Plot? What's that?
I think I'm having a bunch of people here for Father's Day. I'm going to make John cook anyway. :)
