November is National Novel Writing Month and...

MOVEMBER --- Mo: the slang for mustache, and November: the month when men all over the world challenge themselves (or their wives, not sure who is "challenged" more) to grow a mustache and show their awareness of men's health issues. In Canada, the funds raised are donated to Prostate Cancer Canada, and last year's Canadian campaign was the second largest in the world behind Australia, raising $7.8 million.

My husband and his friends are getting hairy for Movember this year, and so I wanted to make the most of my November challenge as well. I also wanted to make sure everyone knew that NaNoWriMo is about more than just the words.

No matter how rambling your book or non-existent your plot, while you tap out that 50k on the keyboard this month (even if you're not strictly participating) keep in mind that every year donations from writers young and old, all over the world help to bring free creative writing programs for kids and adults in over 500 cities and towns, 3,000 classrooms, and 200 libraries every year (from the NaNo site).

As you buckle in for NaNoWriMo, help make those words count for more than just bragging rights.

And good luck with NaNoWriMo!! and Movember!!

I feel out of sync with the world! I didn't know about the moustache growing fundraising till this year!

Good luck with Nano! I did it once (didn't hit 50K). It was fun!

Hm. And here I'm waxing off mine. :)Great that Carlo is doing this, and so impressed you're doing Nano. I'm so bad at enforced goals...I'd probably never write anything. My personal goal is about 1000 words a day. If I can maintain that, I'm happy.

I really don't know what I was thinking when I agreed to participate in Nano. It seemed like such a good idea at the time, lol.

That's awesome your husband and others are doing Movember. And good luck on Nano, too!
