Please welcome Kieran Kramer to the Dark Walk! I met Kieran through Twitter. Kieran's one of the nicest and most positive people I've met. And I'm so excited that WHEN HARRY MET MOLLY releases today! Congrats on your debut, Kieran!Secrets. We all have them. And most of us are fascinated by other people's secrets—if we could only find them out! I spent a couple years working at the CIA, where secrets abound. So it's no wonder that in my stories, my characters are often hiding something. In my debut novel from St. Martin's Press, When Harry Met Molly, the hero and heroine work together to keep their secret: that they're not truly "together" romantically, as the other couples in the story are. For the sake of winning a contest, Molly has to pretend to be Harry's mistress, and he has to pretend he finds her the most alluring woman he's ever known.
But often secrets have a way of biting their owners in the backside—Harry and Molly can attest to that. And it's a rare secret that doesn't get out! I'll tell you about a funny one of mine that was exposed when I was trying to get into the CIA: the authorities there asked me if I'd ever stolen anything, and I had to confess that I had. Gulping back my mortification, I told them that once in college, my sister and I, who waited tables to pay for our apartment and tuition, came down with bad colds. We wanted to make some chicken soup, but money was always tight. To avoid adding a couple of dollars to our grocery bill, when we were at the store getting the chicken, I opened a jar of bay leaves and…I stole one. The chicken soup recipe called for it!
I often wonder what happened when those CIA employees left the room and conferred about me later. Did they laugh at me? Do they still talk about the Dreaded Bay Leaf Stealer? I know stealing is wrong, but that was a funny secret, and I'm amazed they were able to keep a straight face when I told it with such trepidation!
Do YOU have a secret you can laugh at now? Feel free to share it here! Or maybe you'd like to confess a little secret that you don't really feel like laughing about yet. Maybe it still causes you a bit of embarrassment or chagrin, and it would be a relief to finally get it off your chest. Of course, you also might say, "No way!" to this unorthodox suggestion.
Whatever you decide to do, remember that—like Harry and Molly—we've all got a bit of mystery about us, and we should celebrate that fact. Secrets make us more interesting, more alluring. The compelling back-and-forth tug toward true intimacy is fueled by disclosed revelations, isn't it? So don't give all your secrets away. Keep a few.
I promise I won't tell.

Kieran, it's great to have you here! I'm dying to read your book. Ely has had some great things to say about it. I'll be making a trip to the bookstore this weekend . . .
A secret before six in the morning! My brain is broke. Has been all week. But can't wait to read what everyone else likes... promise not to hold it against anyone ;)
The bay leaf is funny, and I do wonder if they laughed about it when they left the room.
Welcome to the Dark Walk! I've got your book and started to read it in my car while I was waiting to meet someone. I almost read through lunch. :)
I don't have many secrets.Once I told my husband a shopping cart hit and dented our car in a grocery store parking lot, and that was NOT the truth.Sorry, honey.
Hi Kieran! Congrats on your debut!
I finished WHEN HARRY MET MOLLY last night and I loved it! Can't wait to read the next Impossible Bachelors book. That excerpt has me counting the days! *g*
No big secrets to divulge here. ;-)
Hey, everybody,
Thanks for having me here today! What--no secrets?! Haha!
I once read a great book about secrets--it was by Sophie Kinsella, and it was called Can You Keep a Secret? The heroine thought she was gonna die--her plane was going down. And so she blurted out all her secrets to the guy in the seat next to hers. Some of them were like yours, Maggie! Funny little ones. But others were HUGE and incredibly intimate! And then that guy winds up being the president of the company she works for!! It was cute.
Anyway, thanks, Tiffany, Maggie, Elyssa, and PJ for all the support about When Harry Met Molly. I'm so glad you enjoyed it, PJ, and thanks for reading it thru lunch, Maggie!
I hope you all have a great day. I'll check in later and see if anyone's confessed any good secrets!
Hugs,
Kieran :>)
Kieran: I saw a whole book on this at Borders the other day. People sent in their anonymous secrets. Fascinating and kind of scary sometimes.
When I was a sophomore in college, my roommate had her boyfriend living with us and I didn't tell my parents because I was afraid they'd make me move out. I ended up moving out anyway (and having to tell my mom and dad) because he became abusive to her, and scared the crap out of me. My really big secrets usually came out in the end.
Love the bay leaf thief story. I think I would have been laughing if I were your examiner. It's just too cute.

Gwen, I think most secrets DO come out sooner or later.
I have another secret to confess: I don't give secrets away on purpose, but I have accidentally done so before (anyone who's a member of a trifecta of sisters can relate to this problem!).
:>)
Kieran, thanks so much for guest blogging with us today! I read and absolutely loved WHEN HARRY MET MOLLY. I can't wait for your next books!
I loved your secret story. Too funny!
*LOL* Okay, I have to laugh about stealing the bay leaf. (They are pretty expensive; and they do add quality to the soup.) And I would have loved to have seen the looks on their faces when you confessed your dark secret.
I'm not sharing any of my secrets. *LOL* But yes, we're all a little mysterious. :)
Hi Kieran,
i love that bay leaf story! I have no secrets to divulge, but I have to say I love When Harry Met Molly. Especially the wheelbarrow scene. I laughed out loud and spilled my tea!
Can't wait to read the next book!
Sharon
Congrats on your debut release, Kieran. I can't wait to read "When Harry Met Molly." I might share a secret after having a few drinks.
Sharon, probably you mean the sack race scene?? Yes, I loved that one, too!
And Jane,I don't blame you for not bllurting out secrets until you've had a cocktail or two. If you're gonna reveal, the sharing at least ought to be fun. I'll order a Cosmo or something equally girly and meet you at the bar! :>)
I love that you took only one bay leaf. Hilarious. Who does that? Can't stop laughing. Can you imagine trying to explain that if you had been caught.
I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of When Harry Met Molly. I have heard nothing but good things about it. It's actually been on my wishlist for a few months now.
As for any secrets....hmm...I actually don't have any. I'm not the best when it comes to secrets about myself. I always blurt them out to someone. For me, I always find that they come out eventually so I might as well just tell them now. I am good at keeping others secrets though.
Danielle,
Yeah, who takes one bay leaf? Sheesh!
As for secrets, I'm the same way! I can't keep my own secrets very well, but I can keep someone else's.
Well, g'night, everyone. Off to watch Modern Family on Tivo. Thanks so much, Vauxhall Vixens, for having me visit. I had a great time!
Kieran XO
Kieran-
I LOVED When Harry Met Molly! It's so funny, but the humor only adds to the romance! I can't wait for the next book!!
Kieran-
I LOVED When Harry Met Molly! It has the perfect mix of romance and humor, and I couldn't put it down! My favorite mistress was Hildur- l oved her attempts at speaking English correctly.
Thanks, Devon! I loved Hildur, too!!
Kieran, I loved reading When Harry Met Molly. It was a fun book. I have to admit that I had a tough time trying not to compare it to the movie whose name it is so close to and expecting to see something happen that was related to the movie. I have to admit that the name being so close to a popular movie threw me when it came to my expectations of the book.
I do have a few secrets. Some I've even shared with my husband. :-)
