At the beginning of September, I finished my book and began the process of editing and sending out on submission. At that point, I kind of took a bit of a break (I say kind of, because although I started loosely plotting something new, I wasn't working too hard on it).
This last weekend as a family, we went away for a fantastic weekend up north just the three of us and while I brought the computer, it was strictly for movie-watching late at night once kiddo was asleep (there was no tv in our cozy cottage). We went hiking, boating, and basically just enjoyed being together.
But now the break is over. Yes, I'm ready to get working again, and it feels good. My laundry and vacuuming are all caught up. I'm rested. I'm energized. It feels like just the right time. Not too much rest and not too little.
So how do you know when you need a break, and when does a break become so long that getting back down to business is even harder??

I usually just crash when I'm overdue for a break. I usually don't stop until I crash. Probably not the smartest of moves, but still... Can't seem to help myself.
I am coming off a mini break right now, too! I was supposed to get on that full time writing wagon this morning, but low and behold, I forgot to set my damn alarm clock... so, tomorrow it is :)

I hit my invisible wall. It always catches me by surprise.
PS LOVE your vacation spot. I am so jealous. I could really use a break right now.
Welcome back!
Your vacation spot looks beautiful and relaxing.
I often crash, too. And then I'll get a lot of reading in. :)
Yeah, I guess we all do that a little bit. But it seems wrong. Shouldn't we take the time to stop and "smell the roses" BEFORE exhaustion and mental breakdown forces us to? In writing and in life, I think I'm going to try and be a bit more balanced--it will probably help me stay healthier.
