This is going to be a quickie today. My internet connection is fickle these days. If I manage to get this blog to load on the net, it will be a miracle.
I have new shiny coverflats that are beyond gorgeous of my second book. The title and name are in red foil and it's just so darned pretty I find myself staring at it for the heck of it.

What kind of swag do you like? I got lots from the conference. I brought home my friends bookmarks so I can include them in my mailings. I have some books that I'll be giving away in the upcoming weeks, too.
My favorite author giveaway is bookmarks. I can't get enough of them. And I need a stockpile, because I do lose them or sometimes bend them and then I can't use them anymore.
So dear blog readers, tell me what you like most from an author, what you don't like (and by that I mean the stuff you throw out in the long run), and stuff you can't do without. :)

One lucky commenters will win a coverflat of The Seduction of His Wife, and another will win the coverflat of The Surrender of a Lady.
Also, one last AMAZING ITEM TODAY! KRISTINA AND ELYSSA HAVE BOTH FINALED IN THE TORONTO GOLD CONTEST! CONGRATS GIRLS! YOU TOTALLY ROCK!

Yay to Kris and Ely! I'm so excited for them. I read the comments from Ely's judges, and they are so encouraging! (Like, if this isn't on submission yet, why isn't it, LOL).
Since this was my first time at RWA, my visit to the goody room was an eye-opener. Everything I brought to give away (pencils, bookmarks, magnets and coverflats) seemed to disappear. In fact, I should have brought more. My favorite item was Sabrina Jeffries's deck of cards with her book cover on them. I'm bringing them on vaca next week to play bridge. Free books are of course always the best, and there were a lot of excerpt books, which I think is a great idea (like The Girl Who Loved Historical Romance, which I plan to give away here next week). I'm partial to practical things, so I snagged a bunch of pens.
Love the coverflats Tiff!!
And I am a sucker for promo. I love magnets, pens, bookmarks, and there were quite a few other neat ideas this year, like hand sanitizer and little jewelled charms, and lip balm...
Oh and...YAYAY me and Ely! :)
I tend to love free books the most. Wonder why. LOL
But really I am happy if an author decides to giveaway stuff I know it has to be a headache and costly to mail out everything!!!
And congrats again to Kris!!! I'm so happy ww both are finalists. Yay!
Oh, I think this is the first glance I've got of The Seduction of His Wife's cover. Gorgeous!
I love swag too. Chocolate is the best, I think. Though lip balm would be kinda neat too! That's a good idea. :)
Congrats Ely and Kris! Way to go!
I always enjoy receiving free books, especially if they're autographed. However, whatever an author decides to give away is nice of her. As Elyssa stated, mailing is expensive and an author doesn't really know if the winner of a contest will turn into a reader.
Maggie, you did have a ton of great stuff! I even snagged some of your bookmarks to send out in my giveaways!
Kris, I love the pretty bead bookmarks that authors put together for their readers. They are thoughtful and pretty and practical.
Ely! You who won't take my bookmarks! I still love you though.
Marnee, isn't it gorgeous? I can't decide which I love more! And I'm all for chocolate... there was some in the goodyroom at nationals.
Kim, who doesn't love free books :) I adore them. Though the ones I brougth back from nationals I'm mostly giving away... I've read the authors and love them and want to share their awesomeness! And new readers is always a huge bonus!
CONGRATS, Kris and Elyssa!!! That's fantastic!! *sniff* I found out this week I didn't final in a contest. RATS! But, I thrilled for you two! How exciting!
Tiffany, your book covers are divine! Simply divine. I'd be staring at them all day, too. LOL
Never been to a conference, but have had friends bring me back the treats. My favs are pens and book marks. They are excellent conversation pieces. People always ask me who's the latest author to read and I'll show them. LOL I've always got a book w/ me. :) Cover flats, I like to hang on the wall in my office, especially my friend's covers. I find them to be very inspirational!
The one thing I saw posted from RWA'10 that I was crazy jealous to have was Kimberly Killion's HAWT SCOT button. *sigh* It had a shirtless hunk in a kilt on it. No fair!
Glad you ladies are back and are sharing the good times! :)
Gorgeous coverflats!! (Probably one of the things I first toss though. *LOL* I can't keep them; I can't use them for anything practical...)
I sometimes use bookmarks, but the bookmarks I most use are the ones that my local bookstore prints up and gives me with the books I purchase. The shiny author bookmarks I'm not as wild about. *shrugs* Yes, I'm weird. I guess because most of the author bookmarks I get are for authors I don't want to read and I don't like looking at bookmarks of books I'm not going to read. It'd be like having a bookmark by Stephen King. Never going to read the guy, why am I using him to mark my pages?
This will not be an issue I have for you, Tiff. Send me your bookmarks! I'd love them. *LOL*
Congrats to J.K. and Ely!! Huzzah!! I hope you both get first place! (I'm assuming you guys were in different categories?)
Sarah, that reminds me! I LOVE BUTTONS! They are fun and you can wear it on your batch for all eternity!
Hellie,
I will send you bookmarks... they aren't shiny and ugly. They are pretty and done in matte... they are very girly! LOL
Congrats on the contest, ladies! Whoohoo!
Because I never send out anything, I made sure Sabrina at CheekyReads got your bookmarks to put in her prize packs. So they will not go to waste!
I love bookmarks, especially all the pretty glossy ones authors are putting out these days. I use other stuff, like pens and a pocket mirror, but I don't look to see the name on the stuff. So I'm not sure that stuff is actually serving its purpose.
Christie Craig is great at creating promotional items to go with her books. I have a pizza cutter because her heroine delivered pizzas. I always know that's from Christie and think of her everytime I use it. It's a great pizza cutter!
I also have a measuring spoon from Cathy Maxwell that is unique. So I guess go with the unique stuff. The thing specific to you that just seeing it will make readers know your name.
Almost forgot, YAY! for coverflats!
That excerpt book you gals did was a great idea, and I put mine to use in the airport. During the two hour delay (grrrr...) I met a woman reading a romance who told me she loves historicals and reads about three a week, but she only recently got into them.
Well, I pulled out that book and told her she should take it, read the excerpts, and then go buy the books. So I did promotion for like seven of you in one swift giveaway. LOL!
I didn't even think of putting the buttons on a badge!! What a good idea!
Did you save your badge? OH! You should frame the paper piece or scrapbook it w/ flyer and the name tag for your seat at the signing. LOL I save everything! It drives my hubby bonkers. :)
Such beautiful covers! Wow. And congrats to the finalists. :)
I guess my fave giveaway would be a bookmark, to remind me of an upcoming release (while I put it to work in somebody else's book! LOL) I also like reading excerpts, but I'm happy to do that online. :)
I love how Terri put hers to use with the romance "convert". LOL That was quick thinking!
I don't particularly care about most freebies, but when I won a book from Tessa Dare, she included a button for Surrender of a Siren, which I had mentioned to her as my favorite book of the year. I was very touched. -- willaful
Terri! You rock! I should be sending you more of those books!
Sarah, I keep all my badges (no idea why) and buttons too.
Donna, when I love an author, I read excerpts online too. My fave freebie is still bookmarks, though. It must make the book experience feel more complete when you can slide one between the pages (I'm not the type to fold over pages)!
Anonymous, I have ALL of Tessa Dare's buttons from the conference last year! I doubt I'll ever part with them! LOL
I'll post this on the main page tomorrow, but should anyone happen to be in this thread, the winners for the coverflats are Sarah Simas and Donna Cummings. Ladies... please send your snail mail addy to tiffany@tiffanyclare.com
Thanks!
