Swagalicious

So, RWA 10 has come and gone, but I am still coasting on the high of meeting fellow Vixens J.K. Coi and Tiffany Clare in all their adorable glory. We've been online friends for years, but seeing them in person was the highlight of an incredible five days. I'm sure most of you reading this are tired of hearing about everyone's fabulosity in Orlando, so I won't bore you by telling you I met some (but not nearly enough) of my writing idols, Twitter friends and fellow travelers on the writing journey. But I did come home with lots of amazing things, one of which was a pink suitcase stuffed with goodies that I won at the literacy signing.

Now, you may say that after spending $20 on raffle tickets, $20 dollars to a skycap to get the mound of luggage into the terminal and another $25 dollars to check the new bag, that I didn't "win" anything, LOL. But I'd like to share some of the swag (good swag, i.e., free books) I picked up at the conference, as well as signed copies of Mistress by Mistake, Tempting Eden, some Brava coverflats of my next two books Lords of Passion and Mistress by Midnight and a rare, valuable first-chapters excerpt book featuring "both" of me and our own Tiffany Clare. All you have to do is leave a comment below telling me who you'd fangirl-gush to if you had a chance (for me, it was Eloisa James at the Kensington cocktail party---I was too numb to realize I was signing Tempting Eden at the Berkley event with Nora Roberts just a few feet away. For the record, she was wearing killer heels and a red sheath dress and looked fabulous as she walked by me at the end.). I'm in the woods away from the Internet this week, but I'll pick a winner when I get back and spend even more $ getting a nice big box to a lucky commenter!
(And one more thing. I met the most wonderful Canadian authors throughout the conference. I don't know what's in the water up there, but I want some!)

I would definitely have a fangirl-moment if I met Eloisa James. I would have a repeat fangirl moment if I met Meg Cabot again. And then of course, Nora Roberts, the Queen of Queens.

Sounds like you had an amazing time!

I would fangirl gush over Courtney Milan, Tessa Dare, Sara Lindsey, and Elizabeth Hoyt.

Though, I still have many lovely books to read by other amazing authors. :)

That is so exciting that you got to meet your online writing friends. I'm hoping to do that at next year's conference -- and I'm also hoping there will be even MORE of them to meet. :)

I got to meet Eloisa at a conference a couple years ago and apparently I couldn't remember how to put words in the correct order. LOL I think she's used to that though because she was very gracious. :)

Hello, Maggie! With much respect for you and the other lovely literary ladies whose work I enjoy, I would love to go back and meet the late, great Kathleen E. Woodiwiss! My first romance reads were by Georgette Heyer, Barbara Cartland and Jane Aiken Hodge. Then I found the wonderful world of Harlequin and category romance, and I had a new home. However, when I read "Ashes in the Wind" by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, I found a new world! Thanks to her, I enjoy your work and the work of so many other talented and creative authors : )

I would fangirl crush Julia Quinn. She gave me a love of Regency romance that is still strong today and led me to other fangirl crushes on Eloisa James and Sabrina Jeffries, just to name a few.

oh my gosh, too many too choose from. If I met Eloisa James, Julia Quinn, Nora Roberts & Catherine Coulter all at once I would probably just pass out from the excitement and not get to have an appropriate fangirl moment :)

I just loved seeing all the pictures and stories from everywhere online about RWA. . . sure was jealous it was in Disney World! LOL

Me and fangirl behavior. . . well, it's not very unique now, but the first two to come to mind would be Lisa Kleypas and Julia Quinn for historical, and maybe go with Vicki Lewis Thompson and Susan Mallery for contemporary. :)

I have gushed over many authors. Somes I've just gone up to tell them that I simply LOVED their books.

My biggest fangirl moment (I managed not to sound like a crazy person when we were introduced) was meeting Lisa Kleypas. She has got to be the most genuine, adorable, sweet woman I have EVER met. With the kindest smile ever. I may have been grinning ear to ear like an idiot as she told me how much she loved my book. Was I smart enough to return the comment to the queen of historical romance (IMHO)? Nope... We'll just call that my dumbass moment of the century.

You need to come up here more often, Maggie, the water is great ;)

Isn't it so much fun to meet your online friends when you are pretty sure they aren't going to be creepy people? ROFL! I got to meet some of my Twitter pals and one of my Twitloss buddies in person. She is from the Netherlands so we were very excited to get to meet. Glad you had so much fun!

I think the real question is: who wouldn't I fan girl gush to? *LOL*

My list would include (but in no particular order):

1. J.K. Rowling (okay, she might actually be the top spot)
2.) Sophie Kinsella
3.) Lisa Kleypas
4.) Eloisa James (I've met her and I think I gushed)
5.) Leslie Langtry (I've met and I definitely gushed...and squealed!)
6.) Julie Garwood
7.) Jude Deveraux (I soooo wanted to be her when I grew up)
8.) Elizabeth Hoyt

And many, many more...there are a lot of books that have touched me and if I met the author, I'd be all gushy and "I love your book!!" *LOL*

It sounds as if your first RWA National was an all-round success, Maggie. I love seeing all the pics of the Vixens posted at various spots on the web.

My list of authors that I'd love to meet but would probably be turned into a gibbering idiot by the occasion is too long to list here. I'd gush my way alphabetically through my list from Shana Abe to Joan Wolf, stopping at every letter along the way.

Maybe I need to spend some time in Canada with the Canadian gals. I could use an injection of that water myself....

I've met Eloisa and I've met Elizabeth Hoyt. I do admit I didn't know how to talk to Elizabeth Hoyt. I stuttered a bit, I'm sure of it. :)

I loved meeting Tiff and JK in NJ too, Mags. And you describe them perfectly. :)

Hope you're having a great week!

Having never been to a conference, I'd probably be in constant state of 'fangirl' mode. LOL

But seeing, Julia Quinn, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Katherine Caskie, Katharine Ashe, Jennifer AShley, Sara Lindsey, Elisabeth Naughton, Juliana Stone, Gaylen Foley, Charlaine Harris and all of you lovely ladies would definitely be awesome!!

There are so many authors and fellow unpubs who have inspired me that I'd be giddy at the chance to give 'em a hug and say thanks. :)

Enjoy your downtime! :)
