I watched a lot of classic movies as a teen. I would take the weekly TV guide, from the Sunday paper, go to the back where the index of movies for that week, and write down the ones I wanted to tape and watch. This was when AMC actually aired classic movies. Sorry, AMC, but Jaws is not in the same league as It Happened One Night.
But what many of the romantic classics had in common---whether the movie was screwball, drama, or mystery---was that everything led to that kiss. The one that changed it all between hero and heroine, or was the kiss that finally brought the h/h together. There's emotion, tension, and, naturally, sweeping music.
Here are some of my favorite kisses:

My favorite book and movie, Gone With The Wind:
From Here To Eternity:
Breakfast at Tiffany's:
And, lastly, my favorite movie ending ever, Love With The Proper Stranger:
What are some of your favorite kisses in movies or books?

You know what... I have no idea what movies have great kisses. Well I sure I do, just not at four in the morning.
I know the Spiderman kiss, where he's upside down and Mary Jane pulls his mask below his kiss is pretty hot.
I just finished writing a kissing scene. :)I suppose it's redundant to talk about the kissing scene in North and South.
These are fabulous clips, btw. Yay for movie romance, when real life so often falls short.
I love movie kisses. I really can't think of any in particular right now, but the good ones usually involve lots of energy and passion after a really great fight :)
Wow, great taste in movies! My favorite movie is "Show Boat" with Howard Keel and Kathryn Grayson. When they kiss and realize their true feelings, it's awesome. I just recently learned that there was a real romance off and on for years between Howard and Kathryn. They definitely had great chemistry!
I absolutely adore "Love With the Proper Stranger"! It's one of my all-time favorite movies. The theme song is one of the greatest ever! Steve McQueen and Natalie Wood were perfect, never better. Both of them were so young and so beautiful!

My personal top five are all from older movies. There are hotter kisses in more recent movies, but for romance and meaning, I'll take the old movies every time.
Notorious--1946 (Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman)
The Lady Eve--1941 (Henry Fonda, Barbara Stanwyck)
Only Angels Have Wings--1939 (Cary Grant, Jean Arthur)
To Have and Have Not--1944 (Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Becall)
The Quiet Man--1952 (John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara)
I loved the kisses in:
Pirates of the Caribbean 3--when Will and Elizabeth get married--the soundtrack music as their lips meet is AWESOME. Everyone should have soundtrack music when they kissed. It'd make the experience that much better.
Braveheart--when he's courting Murron. *sighs*
How to Win a Date with Tad Hamilton--very cute movie; kiss is right before she leaves with Tad Hamilton. *LOL* It's worth watching just for the secondary characters.
It is NEVER redundant to mention the North & South kiss scene, Maggie, bite your tongue!
The Unsinkable Molly Brown--anytime Harvey Preston is kissing you seems like a good time.
Call me sappy, but I like the kiss in The Sound of Music between the Captain and Maria. I also love the folk dance...total sexual tension. *LOL*
Tiff, when I first saw that kiss, I couldn't help but think how uncomfortable it looked. LOL.
Maggie, like Hellion said, there's always a time to talk about North and South. Always. And yeah, I had fun looking at movie clips last night---there was some I wanted that I couldn't find.
J.K., I totally agree! I love when there's kissing and make-up sex in movies and in books. ;-)
Virginia, Show Boat is such a great movie. Love it! And yay on someone sharing my love for Love With The Propoer Stranger! There's so much said in that movie with absoluely no dialogue---the facial expressions speak a thousand words. A definite must watch for any romance writer imo.
Janga, I love those movies. Such great films, and such great chemistry between the hero/heroine in all of them. I think I watched The Quiet Man more times than I could count, but god, it's so freaking good!
Hellion, that kiss between Will and Elizabeth . . . sigh! And I totally agree---there needs to be soundtrack music for kissing, for making love, for when you're working out, and just any moment that calls for music. ;-) Also, such great examples. I especially love The Sound of Music---that folk dance is simmering. Much like Witness, where Harrison Ford watches her take a shower, or undress, and it's so freaking hot. I need to watch that movie again.
I have to admit my all time favorite kiss didn't come from a movie or book. It's from the tv show "Gilmore Girls" and it's Luke and Lorelei's first kiss. Then i loved their first kiss after their first break up. ^^
Jane Fonda and Jon Voight in Coming Home. Sigh.
Jediskora, Luke and Lorelei . . . sigh. I miss that show.
Ohhhh, Sonomalass, I've never seen that movie. Adding it to my list.
Oops, sorry, Jedisakora, about misspelling your name!
I love the kiss in the Notebook. Seriously, that had to be the hottest kiss I've watched on TV. Oh and the one between Han Solo and Leah in Empire Strikes Back, right before he gets carbon frozen. :)
One of my favorite 'That Kiss' scenes is from the 80's Australian miniseries A Town Like Alice, starring Bryan Brown. Really long lead-up to it, and total pay-off!
Elyssa Papa: I wish the show was still on too! It really ended before it should have ended. Damit i wanted a Luke/Lorelei wedding.
Marnee, Tiff and I were just talking about how could we forget about The Notebook. I LOVE kisses in the rain.
Julia, I've never seen that series, but it sounds like it's delicious. Long awaited kisses, in movies and in books, are some of the best.
Jedisakora, I totally agree! I so wanted a Luke and Lorelei wedding.
I remember being very taken with the kiss in "Ask Any Girl" - Shirley McLaine and David Niven, IIRC. Short but effective.
Must rent LWaPS! -- willaful
