Registration for RWA Nationals in D.C. is open. And yeah, I'm in the "bust" category. I won't be going, but Tiff is. And on the Eloisa James/Julia Quinn board, I know there are others. I'm already bribing Tiff to bring back goodies. Two words: Goody room.
D.C. does look like it's going to be a lot of fun. A penis-shaped monument, hot weather, and hotter FBI agents at the ready . . . why, it's an erotica waiting to be written.
I'm sure there'll be tons of parties. Maybe some incriminating photos. And maybe, just maybe, there'll be a Bjork-like costume or some drama happening. Please let the above headpiece be the one; it's so fugly it's almost pretty.
So, if you're attending, what are you most looking forward to? What advice do you have for first times like Tiff and any other lurkers who might be out there? If you're on the fence, what will make you decide to sign up?

I'm going to get lots of sleep beforehand so I don't have to worry about being tired while there...
Hey in theory that sounds good! LOL
And it is SOOOOO fugly it's almost pretty!
I'm on the fence about going. Originally I was all gung-ho, but my family is trying to work out a vacation somewhere this summer where we can all be together, and that will take priority. Right now I'm in the bust category too.
Have fun to all the people that will be at Nationals. I won't be there. It's too expensive and I don't have enough holidays and as a family we're going to Alberta this summer.
I wanted to go but DC is so expensive.
Suggestions: The best part of RWA is the workshop agenda. Go, take notes, report back so the rest of us can glean from your new found wisdom. lol.
And if you can't make all the lectures, pick up the CD. Many of the workshops are recorded, and it's cheaper to buy it on the last day of the con than later on.
Sightsee. DC is AWESOME, even if you're not from the states. Pick at least one of the museums. You won't be sorry.
PS National museums are always free. US tax dollars at work.
I can't wait!!! I love the book signing and meeting so many fabulous writers. Heck, fabulous women. But my favorite part of last year was my friends and I hanging out in the room laughing our asses off. I haven't had that much fun in a very long time. I love my roomies and can't wait to hang with them again.
Tiff has it right. Get lots of sleep before hand. Though I'll be much better this time since I'm not flying across several timezones. LOL! No jet lag this year. Whoot!
I wish all of you Vixens could be there. You really have no idea how much fun this is going to be. It's worth any effort it takes. The contacts, the buzz, the current that runs through the entire hotel. I know family comes first, but this is worth making the time for.
Tiff, I think you could pull the headpiece off. Just saying. *w*
Maggie and Kris, a family vacation sounds great. I know you'll both have fun on those.
Maria, that's exactly why I'm not going. The money is just too much. I wish it was a lot cheaper. And thanks for the heads up for those who are attending.
Terri, hanging out with friends and meeting new ones seems like one of the added bonuses of Nationals. You'll have to let me know how much fun D.C. was!
Pace yourself! That's the advice I kept getting and I didn't quite get it until I got there and it was one thing after another. I think all newcomers should know that they do not need to attend every workshop. This year I will be doing some sightseeing instead of trying to cram in every little event!
And ditto what Terri said! The fun times cannot be beat! I'm looking forward to snar.. part II!
I won't deny it's expensive. I'm just lucky I have no family to look after which means minimal financial obligations elsewhere!
DC may be doable this year because it's so close to home and I can take the train. Sharing a room helps cut costs and frugal meals keeps the cost to a reasonable level.
The workshops are amazing and the networking that goes on happens at such a natural pace. You are constantly meeting fellow writers and authors, as well as, editors and publishers. And everyone is friendly.
On the fence and leaning towards going but I have to have a reason beyond seeing all my fabulous friends and so many others I haven't met yet. I need to have something to show for it all. And I will.
I'm going. I've attended the literacy signing (in Atlanta) but this will be my first time as a registered participant. I'm looking forward to everything but mostly I'm looking forward to meeting all the wonderful people who fill my days with their online friendship.
Don't worry about having pictures to enjoy. Anyone who knows me will tell you there will be *lots* of pictures! :)
Thanks, Steph, Santa, and PJ for popping in with your advice and suggestions!
*makes note to hug PJ then avoid all photo ops*
LOL!
Don't let Santa fool you, she'll be there. J and I will make sure of it.
Steph - LOL! You are so adorable.
God I love your blogs! *LOL*
I'm still on the fence. It is UNLIKELY I'll be going. (Ely, me and you gotta hold down our respective forts, right? Right.)
So sorry to hear that you won't be going, Ely. Nashville should be tons of fun next year.
My advice? Carry water bottle, be sure your day-wear shoes are comfortable with sensible heels, and get a good night's sleep every night.
Terri and Tiff, who are you rooming with?
Keira - My fingers are crossed all my roommates from last year make it back. Which is another reason I'm dragging Santa kicking and screaming. LOL!
I'm just on the fence, about to fall off backwards!
I so envy you lucky people with that conf.
Now if there was a physics conf in Washington at about the same time, so that I could combine business and pleasure there might be a chance.
In that event I reckon I could recognise some of the participants now. So if a tall dark haired intelligent looking strange man should sit by you and smile, do say hello...it might just be me! *grin*
Thanks Hellion (even though I was like WTF is this blog I just wrote---LOL). Of course we have to hold down the forts.
Keira, I always carry a water bottle even if I'm going to my mailbox! I think I must have died from thirst in a past life, or been in the desert a lot. And I would wear flip-flops and probably incur the wrath of shoe goddesses everywhere.
Quantum, are you Richard Armitage? I knew it! *g* We all should be the envious ones; you live in beautiful Englad.
I hope that one day I'll be able to meet all of you in real life. Hopefully it won't be in 20 years! LOL.
