In case you haven't heard, there's a fundraiser going on for Cystic Fibrosis called Unleash Your Story, where you can either set a writing or reading goal for the month of September and raise money for CFF.
Of course, it'd be really cool if you join---you can even join the Chocolate Mafia team here. Huge thanks to Tessa Dare for setting up the whole team. Feel free to donate money on that page too (and yes, it's my home page but you can donate to any of the Chocolate Mafia members). Any little bit helps and think of how good you feel in helping others out!
My personal goal is to write 30,000 words in a month and to raise $100. Good luck to me. Although Courtney Milan is going to write 70,000 words (eek!!!). Someone pass her some coffee and chocolate.
Okay, moving on...
With each manuscript and reediting I do, I pick up a bad habit. At the very start of TACOM, I had an overuse of slightly. In revisions, it was shoulders. (Just ask Maggie about that one). *g* In LAYLOM, it's huts and ellipses. I confess I'm an ellipses whore. Those three little dots are just awesome. Don't want to complete a sentence? Just go...
Bad habits stick to me like crazy glue, but I do get rid of them. Sooner or later.
So, if you're doing Unleash Your Story, what are your goals? And what are your bad habits?

Good luck Ely! I'll be rooting for you!
Me too! I've decided as tempting as chocolate and all you Mafiettes are, I'm sitting this one out. But I'm going to make a pledge to your page. My word count has been fairly abysmal lately, but I'll be with you in spirit!
Good luck Ely!
I'm a semicolon whore right now with my edits... I'm trying to curb the habit.
I'm with you in spirit too Ely!
Welcome to the Mafia, Ely! My goal is 10,000 words and raising $150. I actually have most of the month of September off from school which is the only reason I'm doing this. I need motivation to get my butt in the chair and I'm hoping this is it.
I'm not in editing yet but I already know the word "just" is a big problem for me. I'd write it in every sentence if I had my way. LOL!
Thanks J.K., Maggie, and Tiff!
And Maggie, pffft. Your word count is awesome. Didn't you write 20K in five days?
Tiff, I feel your pain. I was shocked by how many ellipses I had last night. I must have been on an ellipses high or something.
Terri, "just" is such a common word used in every day speech and it's frustrating when you see how much you use it in your own writing. (But I think that just and some of those minor grammar things are luckily easy to delete).
I use "that" and "ly" words, like Definitely. Suddenly. Apparently. Justifiably. Whateverly. I love LY words. And my characters' dialogue sound like me. Frequently my characters will say something like, "Indeed" or "Clearly." And I'm always saying, "Clearly" even when nothing is clear.
Good luck, guys! I know you will succeed in meeting your goals!!
Oh the "ly" words... sigh. I don't have a problem with adverbs actually in reading them or using them as long as they're not every other word. And I remember reading GOGU and thinking the only problem was that Ben wasn't real. Grrr.
I am not sure I can promise a word count, but I'm going to make a pledge as well.
Good luck, Ely, and everyone else who's writing for a good cause.
